Give up. Be happy!

If we think about how we can create more happiness, we often look for something we can achieve, or can add to our lives. Sometimes the key to happiness, however, is about giving up certain perspectives and behaviors.

1) Give up the habit to blame others.
Guilt is a scapegoat for taking responsibility for your own results. It is a lot easier to blame others than to look at yourself. Guilt is not constructive. It helps you nor the other person; nobody wins in the blame game. The energy you put into blaming others hinders your progress in finding solutions.

2) Give up your desire to impress.
If you accept who you are, accept your quirks, your flaws and strong points and embrace your vulnerability, you will feel a lot better about yourself. And when you have confidence, you have less to worry about what others think of you. You will no longer worry whether someone likes you or not, because deep down you know that people who judge you wrongly are not important in your life.

3) Give up your victim-hood.
The perspective that you are the result of all the external variables, moves the responsibility for taking control of your own life (to all the external variables). It is unfortunate that sometimes bad things happen to the best people. Life can be unfair, unkind and unjust. Adhering to the victim mentality adds nothing to your ability to move forward.

4) Give up the feeling that you are entitled to something.
No one owes you anything. No one. If you approach life as if you are entitled to something, you will probably be disappointed time after time. However, if you are grateful for what you have, you will see all positive things as a bonus rather than the result of your expectations. And you will be pleasantly surprised.

5) Give up pretending.
In a society where excellence is rewarded, we are continuously playing a role. We try to show the world that we are flawless people and we hope to be loved and accepted because of this. But our beauty is in our vulnerability, our love, in our deep and complex emotions... our humanity. If we embrace who we are and decide to be authentic rather than perfect, we open ourselves to make real connections with others. You do not have to pretend to be something or someone else. You are perfect as you are.
